About CWRU:
The history of CWRU is quite exceptional. It all started in 1826 with Western Reserve College, founded in Hudson, Ohio. Another school named The Cleveland Medical College, was founded 17 years later in 1843 and was another department of Western Reserve College. The college eventually moved to University Circle in 1880 and was near the Case School of Applied Science. Case School of Applied Science was eventually transformed into Case Institute of Technology in 1947. The name Case Western Reserve University, came after the two schools, Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve University, merged as a whole in 1967.
Case Western Reserve University has an extended range of athletics. The university has 54 different teams in varsity, intramural, and club sports. The varsity athletic teams as a whole, have over 500 participating athletes. Club and intramural sports are widely popular and they encourage students to join. There are opportunities for everyone and they even allow students to submit an application if they want to create a new club team. The varsity sports teams have over 60 coaches who dedicate their time to ensure the success of their teams and players, on and off the field. CWRU has a large campus spanning over a mile in University Circle/Downtown Cleveland. There are 15 exceptional facilities for the students and athletes to utilize.

Title: James C. Wyant Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education
Mr. Shelton assumed the role of head Athletic Director at Case Western Reserve University in January of 2022. Previously, he served as a senior associate athletic director at Ohio State University and before that, spent fifteen years working with the athletic department at Washington University in St. Louis. TJ represents a diverse amount of knowledge in athletic administration that will contribute a great amount to my learning experience during my internship with him and the rest of the athletic department.
Some of Mr. Shelton's greatest accomplishments include becoming head Athletic Director at Case Western Reserve, working at Ohio State, the 15 years spent in the athletics program at Washington University in St. Louis, and all around efficiently managing athletic departments for the past 30 years. His main responsibilities currently at CWRU include overseeing the department of athletics and the day to day operations for the physical education department.
A few tips that Mr. Shelton provided me with in order to succeed in the athletic industry is the importance of building
relationships while forming a network of people and gaining valuable work experience through jobs and internships.
